Getting Married in Russia

What documents do I need to register a marriage in Russia?
To get married in Russia, you must contact the registry office where the marriage is to take place. They will inform you of the documents you need. These are generally:
- Certificate of marriageability
- Certificate of registration from your local registration office
- Valid passport with a valid visa for Russia and registration note
- Divorce decree, if applicable
All German documents, including the certificate of registration, must be provided with an apostille and a subsequently notarially certified translation. We will be happy to obtain an apostille for the German documents and a translation into Russian for you.
Visa for Getting Married in Russia
There is no special visa in Russia for the purpose of getting married. As a German citizen, you need to enter with a tourist visa. You can apply for the visa at the competent visa centre.
Is a marriage contracted in Russia recognised in Germany?
After the marriage, recognition of the marriage by the German authorities is required. For this purpose, you must present the marriage certificate with apostille. The marriage certificate and the apostille must then be translated into German by a sworn translator.
